QUICK IDEAS

Cinnamon Roll Waffle

Photo placeholder: cinnamon roll pressed into a waffle, crisp ridges, icing drizzled over

Put a cinnamon roll in a waffle iron. That is the whole idea, and it is one of the best five minutes you can spend in a kitchen. The iron presses the swirl into ridges that go crisp while the center stays soft.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 cinnamon rolls
  • Butter or nonstick spray for the iron
  • Icing from the rolls, warmed
  • Optional: berries, whipped cream, maple syrup

Instructions

  1. 01

Heat a waffle iron to medium. Grease it well; the sugar in the roll will want to stick.

  2. 02

Place a cinnamon roll in the center and close the lid gently. Do not press hard, let the iron do the work.

  3. 03

Cook 3 to 4 minutes, until the outside is deep golden and crisp.

  4. 04

Lift it out carefully with a silicone spatula. It will be soft for the first 30 seconds and then set.

  5. 05

Drizzle with warmed icing and add berries or syrup.

Tips

  • Medium heat. High heat scorches the sugar before the middle warms through.
  • Grease the iron every single time, even a nonstick one.

Variations

  • Sandwich a slice of sharp cheddar inside before pressing. It sounds wrong and it is not.
  • Serve as the base for a dessert waffle with ice cream and caramel.
